The Embera Village Tours starts with a boat journey that takes us through the rainforest of the 320,000-acre Chagres National Park, which is the largest of the National Parks protecting the Panama Canal Watershed. Once at the Embera community, we’ll learn about Embera customs and their relationship with nature.
The Comarca Emberá is an important part of the culture and Panamanian folklore. It is located across Panama Isthmus concentrated in the province of Darién: in the districts of Chepigana and Pinogana.
According to the last census registered, it has a population of approximately 9,544 inhabitants.
They usually build huts without walls made of straw for their home, they have a small elevation in the ground built of wood to protect themselves from the animals of the jungle since these are mainly found on the banks of the rivers.
For its transport through the rivers, they use handcrafted boats called “piraguas” that build with the cedarwood.
